Vicarage Lane Light Sauvignon Blanc
Origin
Sauvignon Blanc is traditionally the wine of the Loire Valley in France and wines characteristic of this area are Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé Blanc. Both styles are dry and the final flavour profile reflects the growing season, the soil type and structure.
It is also found in the Graves and Sauterne area of the Bordeaux. Here it is combined with Semillon to produce sauternes that are sweet in finish.
In New Zealand, Sauvignon Blanc made up 75% of the national vineyard crop in 2017, with 285 thousand tonnes harvested and 86% of total wine exports. Most of this is from the renowned soils of Marlborough, where recent years have seen a significant increase in annual new plantings, to attempt to satisfy world demand for the much vaunted product.
Vicarage Lane Light Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2024
Harvest: Machine harvested on 14 and 20 March April 2024.
Viticulture Notes: Produced by acclaimed New Zealand winemaker Alan McCorkindale using carefully selected parcels of fruit from Vicarage Lane’s own vineyard, to produce wine most redolent of the Marlborough tradition.
Winemaking: Grapes from our vineyard were selected for this 8% alcohol Sauvignon Blanc, pressed as usual, then fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks with an aromatic yeast to maximise flavour intensity.
Fined using bentonite clay to ensure the wine remains vegan friendly. Reverse osmosis filtration technology was used to selectively and gently remove alcohol from the finished wine, retaining flavours and natural acidity.
Bottled: From December 2025
Released: March 2026
Wine Analysis:
Total Alcohol 8 %v/v
Titratable Acid 6.5 g/L
Total Sugar 5.5 g/L
Tasting Notes: Pale straw colour, a fruit-driven wine, with fresh aromas of citrus fruits, lemon leaves and red floral notes. The lower alcohol creates a lighter, crisp texture on the palate, which is balanced and finishes refreshingly dry. The lower alcohol results in a wine with lower calories for health conscious wine consumers.
Food Matches: Serve chilled on its own, or match with fish or poultry served with fresh vegetables, or try it with pasta tossed with pesto and asparagus. A beautiful match with goat cheese.
