Pinot Noir Grapes Used By Vicarage Lane Wines In Blenheim Marlborough NZ

Pinot Noir is the classic grape of France’s Burgundy region. It is typically described as soft and feminine, with good examples having aromas of summer fruits, such as raspberry and plum, with a hint of tobacco.

Pinot Noir is a light style red with a soft finish and an emphasis on retaining primary fruit flavours.

The oak treatment adds flavour, complexity and tannins to help stabilise both colour and flavour in this difficult to make wine.

    Fruit
: The grapes were hand and machine harvested from a stoney, riverbed vineyard in the Waipara district of Canterbury in May 2021.

Winemaking: The grapes were fermented in small vats with hand plunging, no yeast addition. Oak treatment, part of the blend spent 6 months in 228 litre oak barrels and part in tank. The tank component was treated with French oak staves and a small amount of French oak chips.

    Bottled: From March 2022
    Released: April 2022

    Wine Analysis:
    Total Alcohol 13.6%v/v
    Titratable Acid 5.1 g/L
    Total Sugar 0.64 g/L

Tasting Notes: This softer style Pinot Noir is focused and concentrated, showing a deep red colour, with purple hues and aromas of blueberry and red berries, and a hint if spice. With a palate of soft tannins, good structure and touch of oak, it has pure Pinot Noir fruit flavours. Ideal for drinking now or will cellar well for drinking over the next 5 years.

Food Matches: Serve a bit cooler than room temperature on its own, or match with roasted chicken and roast vegetables, or with flavoursome fish such as tuna or salmon, or with red meats, especially game, served with a mushroom sauce. Excellent at Christmas time with the ham!
