Our 10th vintage was harvested today

Our 10th vintage has been harvested today! Good quality, but a little bit lighter crop than we hoped. The early spring frosts made quite a bit of damage in the end.  Well, we will have a glass of our beautiful Sauvignon Blanc 2012 for the event anyway. Cheers!

10th vintage for Vicarage Lane Sauvignon Blanc

Vicarage Lane’s 2013 Sauvignon Blanc will be the 10th vintage for the company. This year the quality of the grapes should be superb, but the quantity might end up being a little bit less than average. Beautiful, hot and sunny summer has been very good for us and it looks like we will start our harvest on Easter Sunday.

March news

Exciting week ahead…Our winemaker, Alan, is coming to check all vineyards on Tuesday (harvest maybe about 4 weeks away), our new vintage 2012 Pinot Noir should be ready for bottling any day now and the very last of 2013 Sauvignon Blanc will be bottled on Friday. Oh, and the weather should be sunny & warm all week!!! :)

Gold for 2012 Sauvignon Blanc

Vicarage Lane Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2012 has been awarded a Pure Gold medal at the prestigious Air New Zealand Wine Awards, the country’s premier wine awards.

The Pure Gold medal recognises not only the quality of the wine, but also that the wine is sustainably produced during all stages of its creation.

“This is our first gold medal and naturally we are very happy to receive it. Huge thanks goes to Alan (our winemaker) for this achievement.”

Sauvignon Blanc 2012

We have finally bottled some 2012 Sauvignon Blanc!  This latest vintage has fresh aromas of passionfruit and citrus, a tropical fruit palate with herbaceous hints of thyme and a lovely, refreshingly dry finish.  Part of this first bottling is headed to Finland, where it should be available in Alko and in restaurants early in the New Year.

Vintage 2012 in NZ

Vintage 2012 statistics just arrived.

* A total of 269,000 tonnes of fruit was harvested (in NZ), which is 18% down on last year. Marlborough was 23% down (56,000 tonnes).

* Sauvignon Blanc is still by far the most dominant variety, making up just under 70% of the country’s total production.

* Close to 72% of the vintage came from Marlborough, with Hawkes Bay contributing 11% of the total yield, Gisborne 4% and the rest of the wine regions combined making up 10%.

Vicarage Lane’s own vineyard produced 86.65 tonnes of Sauvignon Blanc…

First taste of 2012 Sauvignon Blanc

We tasted our new vintage 2012 Sauvignon Blanc with our winemaker today. It’s still a cloudy wine, but Alan (our winemaker) was very happy with the quality and flavours. It will still take a while before we have the ready, bottled product to taste, but we think it will be worth the wait….

Another harvest done

Vicarage Lane’s 2012 harvest is done! The crop was smaller than expected, as are most in the whole region.

Harvest weather has been sunny and beautiful, but we are expecting to get some rain in the early hours of tomorrow morning…
